SPONSOR
MEETS HER SPONSORED CHILDREN
I
was very fortunate last year to have been able to go on a mission
trip to Honduras. It was
a very special trip for me because my son, Cody had wanted to go
to Honduras on the children’s mission trip,
but never made the trip. He passed away in a four wheeler accident.
After
this happened, I decided to sponsor some children so that something
good would come out of this tragedy. I then decided to go to Honduras,
since Cody never got to and to meet the children that I sponsored.
This trip truly changed my life. I fell in love with the children and
especially with my 3 boys, who are brothers.
The
first thing I noticed was that I recognized Daniel from his picture.
I walked up to him and tried (tried is the key word here) to say
in Spanish, “Is your name Daniel?” Well, I must have said
it fairly well because he looked at me and smiled real big and shook
his head yes. Well, from that moment on he would gather up 3-4 other
children bring them over to me and say in Spanish, “What is my
name?” When I would say “Daniel”, he would light
up with a big smile and turn to them and say something I couldn’t
understand. It was amazing to me how knowing his name made such a
difference to this little boy.
The next day, we attended church service at LaCoasecha Ministries.
After the service, he spotted me and came running over and gave me
a big hug. The other children were leaving, but he stayed behind
long enough to see me. Even though we couldn’t communicate
(I knew very little Spanish) I was able to do a gesture of I love
you. He shook his head and smiled and then ran to catch up with his
group. I will never forget that moment. I encourage you to grab the
opportunity to go on a mission trip. It will not only change your
life, but that of a child.
TEAM OF 53 MAKES MAJOR IMPACT IN LACIEBA
A team of 53 made up of doctors, nurses, construction workers, support
personnel went to LaCiebe, Honduras in July 2008 as part of Omega
Medical Missions (medical entity of POHI). What an amazing week we
had. We were able to reach out to impoverished, desperate people
across many spheres of life.
We treated approximately 1300 people medically, gave out 400 pair
of eyeglasses, fed 200 families, did construction work on the Destined
to Nations complex, visited nursing and children’s homes, and
203 people accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.! It was
incredible to watch this team, many of which were first timers on
the field begin to move about and reach out to the people of Honduras.
There is nothing like seeing Hope return to faces of children and
adults as we minister and touch them in so many ways. One of my favorite
things to do is to observe the eye clinic and watch as someone is
able to see words on paper instead of an obscure blur, the light
that comes into their eyes is unbelievable. The smile or giggles
on a child’s face as a team member interacts with them or gives
them a toy is absolutely beautiful.
I love these trips, they energize and help me re-prioritize my life.
I rediscover what’s truly important in life and begin to refocus
on the important things like: God, family, relationships and all
of this while helping touch lives that have lost hope, are hungry
or desperate for medical treatment .
I would encourage you to take a trip with us as we “Bring Hope
to the Nations…One Life at a Time”. For further information
on how you can be part of the wonderful adventure please refer to
the “Contact Us” portion of the website and we will be
glad to assist you.
