OTHER
OUTREACHES
Partners of Hope International desires
to impact the nations by answering the needs of the whole body
treating body, mind, soul and spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 says, “And I pray God your
whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming
of the Lord Jesus Christ.” As we have touched the nations we
have encountered other needs that desperately need our attention
to meet the needs of less fortunate people in other countries.
Below you will find other outreaches that POHI is either
currently involved in or that we feel we must get involved in.
We will continue to grow and “enlarge our tents” as
God instructs and supplies the resources.
Daycare Centers
A mother unable to provide for her children due to the death
of her husband, brought three children to Casa Hogar Luz Children’s
Home (Honduras). After
her husband’s death, she lost her 18 month old child to malnourishment
and 6 months later, lost another child in a tragic accident. We agreed
to take the children for six months while this mother tried to get
a business going or find work that will provide for her and her children.
The mother never returned.
We desperately need to construct a daycare center in Honduras and
in other nations to provide childcare, 1-2 meals a day,
and other activities for the children. This will allow the parent
to work and provide for the family.
Economical Empowerment
There is many instances where a minimal financial initial investment
can equip a parent to provide for their families. In most instances,
a small loan will be granted to be paid at a later date. These funds
can then be used to empower other families. This is indeed teaching
a person “How to Fish” instead
of simply “Giving the Fish”.
Staff Training and Development
Education is a powerful tool that can make a huge impact on the quality
of our ministry and ensure the success of a project. At POHI we strive
to provide excellence. In February, 2005 we certified 10 children’s
home personnel and administrators in Child Growth and Development
in Honduras. Continued training is provided in administration, food
handling, financial planning/accounting and other related topics
involved in childcare. Any project undertaken by POHI will have the
necessary training provided as we develop the project.
Leadership Training and Mentorship
Pastors, church leaders and project leaders are all required to attend leadership
training and are mentored by senior pastors or senior staff. Christ lead by example
and poured a lot of his time and energy into the personal and spiritual development
of the twelve disciples. POHI trains and equips leaders across the world through
this program.
Transitional Housing
Once a child reaches the age of 18 they may not reside in a children’s
home any longer. Due to the extreme poverty if the children left
at this time they would have little chance of finding a job with
the necessary income to provide for themselves, and no hope of going
to college. At POHI we want to build transitional apartments or cottages
to allow a child to remain with us through early adulthood, learn
a trade or go to college, learn the necessary skills to budget and
sustain themselves and their future families.
Homes for Unwed Mothers
Many of the abandoned and neglected children in third world countries are the
product of unwed mothers. We need centers for first time mothers. It is our goal
to provide prenatal care, safe housing, parental education, spiritual and technical
training and to equip these women to provide for themselves and their child.
Currently centers are planned for San Pedro Sula, Honduras, India, and at the
mission complex in Bacolod City, Philippines.
Schools, Technical Schools, Colleges and Universities
Most of the projects have, or will have on-site schools, technical schools, colleges
and universities. Other projects will take advantage of local educational programs
or at a nearby POHI facility. Every child cared for through POHI will have opportunities
for basic education and advancement into a technical field or college university
educational levels. This will ensure that they will be able to positively impact
their nation economically and spiritually.
Churches
Fourteen churches have been started through Omega Medical Missions
and many others have grown in size. Communities see that help and
hope comes through the church. When we return to an area, we see
that the communities’ appearance has
greatly improved. Spiritual growth is the most important aspect of
individual growth. It is through our personal relationship with Jesus
Christ that we feel a tremendous desire to make a positive impact
in the lives of ourselves and those around us. POHI is involved in
planting churches in multiple areas of the world.
Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation
Drug and alcohol rehabilitation is an important part of bringing broken homes
back together. POHI has been working with Ministry of Life (Ministerio Vida)
in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Ministry of Life is a center where over 40 men are
counseled and mentored through a rehabilitation program. POHI has equipped this
center with running water, sanitation, beds, painting and remodeling, which has
enabled the center to double its capacity. Ministry of Life provides a large
part of the labor force to the POHI projects in Honduras. Other centers are planned
for the future.
