RECOVERED
TREASURES, PHILIPPINES
Recovered
Treasures Children’s Home is an orphanage in Bago City on the
Negroes Occidental island in the Philippines. These children are without
parents, some abandoned and others from poor families with too many
children and are unable to meet their needs.
Before coming to Recovered Treasures, the children did not know how to show affection,
know about Jesus, God, or the Bible; many were uneducated and had no hope of
tomorrow. Partners of Hope International offers them a home with food, clothing,
shelter and an education—wrapped in love that will tremendously help them
develop and introduce them to God. Through a loving and affectionate family setting
they learn that there is hope for the future.
In January 2008, Trevor and Karen Blanton were commissioned as missionaries by
Pastor Lonnie Johns and sent to the Philippines to oversee the orphanage, school
and church. Trevor is the Pastor of Christ Central (Philippines) Church and Karen
is the administrator for Recovered Treasures. They both have a heart for God
and possess a deep affection for the children.
Recovered Treasures recently relocated to 11 beautiful acres near
Bago City. The new complex will be multifaceted and plans to be basically
self-contained. The uniqueness of the property and the buildings lends
itself to surroundings and culture of the Filipino lifestyle.
At the a Christ Central Ministries Church facility has been erected,
making it a possible to walk across the complex to church, as opposed
to loading up 77 children in a vehicle and driving. The complex also
has an administration building, dining room, library, conference room,
guest houses, and a school that educates children from Pre-K to 12th
grade. College level education is planned for the future. Once the
complex is completed, it will include the following buildings and ministries:
Kitchen and Dining Hall Building
A modern kitchen and dining facilities will offer nutritional meals
for our orphans and ministry centers. These buildings are not yet
complete but will house the dining facilities, library, teacher workroom,
and common areas.
Transitional Housing
Once a child reaches the age of 18 they may not reside in a children’s
home any longer. Due to the extreme poverty in the Philippines if
the children left at this time they would have little chance of finding
a job with the necessary income to provide for themselves, and no
hope of going to college. At POHI we want to build transitional apartments
or cottages to allow a child to remain with us through early adulthood,
learn a trade or go to college, learn the necessary skills to budget
and sustain themselves and their future families.
Homes for Unwed Mothers
Many children are brought to children homes as a result of inadequate
parental training or poverty. At the center, first time mothers can
receive proper prenatal care and nutrition. Both parental and technical
training will be provided to enable productive re-introduction into
society and allow mother and child to remain together.
Agricultural Center
One of our goals is to provide a self-sufficient complex It will
include livestock, farming, and other necessary life skills. The
children will be equipped with trade skills that will enable them
to provide for their future families. Currently we are investigating
the local agriculture for the crops that can help sustain the complex
and provide some income to the Children’s Home and School. MAKE
